If you upgrade your Baratza Vario's display panel to the new H2 version, you can program it so that the lights and display turn off after a specific amount of time has elapsed since the last grinding. To do so:

1. Press and hold the MANUAL button button for 3 seconds until the display shows S00. At this setting, sleep mode never will never kick in.
2. Use the up and down arrows to set the number next to the S -- these indicate minute increments and you can choose from 3, 5, 10, 20 or 30 minutes.
3. Once you've found the value you desire, press the MANUAL button again to store the setting.

Note: You can manually put the grinder into sleep mode by pressing & holding the START button for 3 seconds. As soon as the lights turn off, release the button. Once the grinder is in sleep mode (either automatically or because you manually put it there), you can 'wake up' the grinder by touching any button.
